Dear family and friends
Too much happened this week for me to put it all in a single email, and if I tried, it really wouldn’t capture the spirit of what I’ve felt the past few days. As a kind of follow-up from my last email, I realized that, like the prophet Ammon in the Book of Mormon, we must serve before teach. That’s exactly what we tried to apply to our less-active members, and we accomplished that through Operation: Cookie Blitz. Basically, we got cookies made and used the delivery of those cookies as a tool to introduce ourselves and show them we care. It worked. Less-active members came to church and we’ve been able to meet with a lot of them outside of church.
Elder Dat got a little sick this week from what was originally diagnosed as dengue fever, but turns out to be a stomach bug. He’s ok now. On the downside, our sister missionaries in Thao Dien are also sick. Sister Nghi does in fact have dengue, and Sister Thuy Anh is suffering from aches and pains due to stress. So yeah, Thao Dien is taking hits right now, but the work is still going forward and I’ve definitely seen the Lord raise us up when we’ve needed him the most. We’ve also done a lot of traveling to meet with people to serve them and then teach them. The hard work is paying off. We picked up 6 potential investigators, 4 of whom have a lot of promise to learn more. I learned a lot about teaching this week that I look forward to applying to these new potential investigators.
We’ll see how it goes this week. Sorry for the short email, but hopefully the large amounts of pictures makes up for it
Pictures: A giant prawn we ate, my new investigator Batman (he’s a tough one), this Lego set which costs more than 4,000,000 VND (to put that in perspective, that’s more than my bike here), Star Wars Episode: Priesthood Power Awakens, another animal (except this one is not dead for once!), and finally my and Elder Dat’s submission to the helmet modeling competition of the non-existent “Called to Serve” monthly missionary magazine, as well as our submissions for the “Missionary Models of the Month” section.
